Kids Voting Rochester 2008 Kickoff Celebration

Kids Voting Rochester is truly a “community commitment to democracy!”  Our outreach is to all K-12 students in our community. This is a grassroots, non-profit, non-partisan program available to all students with the goal of helping everyone to be the best citizens they can be in their communities and country!

Kids Voting Rochester is back for this important presidential election on November 4, 2008.   Students learn about democracy through a combination of classroom activities, family dialogue, and an authentic voting experience on Election Day. In addition to valuable civics lessons about voting and elections, students also explore the right to vote, democracy, and active citizenship.  In our inaugural year, 3800 students voted.  This year we know that number can be doubled or tripled.

Kids Voting Rochester is made possible by a local partnership which includes schools, election officials, business and community leaders and volunteers. Watch for our posters showing all these “champions of democracy.”

We would like to encourage more adults and high school students to step up and volunteer at the polls.  This would require a short training session and a commitment to work at least two hours at the polls on Election Day.  To volunteer, please fill out the volunteer registration form or send an email to kidsvotingrochester@gmail.com.

In 2006, volunteers were caught up in the excitement the youngsters felt while voting with their parents at the polls. It was a rewarding experience for all that took part.

Kids Voting Rochester is hands-on, real-life, real-time education!
